"Defining a new non-imitating identity of the West, both respectful of our heritage and yet resolutely modern, is our primary challenge ..." SAAKA is an ambitious fusion between the dedicated work of Nigerian weavers and the modern vision of international designers. The product of this multicultural fusion is a modernized version of Nigerian "Sakala", a traditional technique of textile weaving. A true work of art, which embraces a reflection on design, inspired by the lines of the traditional Sakala, in contemporary and authentic weavings. Established in 2017, SAAKA ("the act of weaving" in the Hausa language), is a sustainable concept driven by an ambitious mindset. Our mission is simple, to preserve and revive the ancestral art of weaving. Using the best quality cotton yarn to express our art is a priority. At SAAKA, we use traditional looms, to make tailor-made textiles from cotton grown and spun in a traditional way and perfectly in accordance with the rules of organic farming. Our colors are all extracted from local plants. Our challenge is to promote and enhance the wide range of possibilities offered by the traditional Sakala and thus ensure greater economic and social independence for our artisans; all our products are made in Niger by their expert hands. For each SAAKA piece purchased, part of the income is donated to our artisans, and another part contributes to the establishment of a weaving training center in Niger. This is our way of making the precious art of Sakala live forever.
